(AP) Neale R. Clark, a reporter, editor and columnist for nearly 20 years at The Register-Herald, died Tuesday from cancer, the newspaper said. He was 58.
Clark began his career at the Register-Herald as a copy editor. He then was editor of the editorial page before moving to Beckley Newspapers’ office in Oak Hill. He came back to Beckley as business editor before returning to the Fayette office.
He won West Virginia Press Association awards for his coverage of the 2001 Fayette school consolidation battle and summer flood.
He was a member of the Register-Herald editorial board and his column, “”Different Drum,”” appeared on the op-ed page each Sunday.
