Former Beloit Daily News Publisher William Behling Dies at 84

William D. Behling, retired editor and publisher of the Beloit (Wis.) Daily News, died on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2013, at his home in Roscoe, Ill. He was 84.

Behling began his newspaper career with the Beloit Daily News in 1946. He served in a number of editorial positions, including as executive editor, prior to being named publisher and editor of the Rhinelander (Wis.) Daily News in 1972. He returned to Beloit as publisher and editor in 1979, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1994. Following retirement he continued to consult with the newspaper, in the role of editor emeritus. He was a past president of the Wisconsin Association Press Editors and had been inducted into the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Don and Dave; and a daughter, Diane.
