Tom Wark, Father of Detroit Free Press’ Action Line Column, Dies at 82

As an editor at the Detroit Free Press, Thomas Edison Wark was one of the editors who oversaw the paper’s Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the 1967 Detroit civil unrest and created a hugely popular public service column that other newspapers copied.

Mr. Wark, who held senior editing posts at the Free Press, Philadelphia Inquirer and New York Times, died Friday of pancreatic cancer at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, N.M. He was 82.
