William Weston “Wes” Bray III has been named executive vice president, products & marketing, for Civitas Media. The announcement was made by Michael Bush, president and CEO of the Davidson, N.C.-based company.
Bray will lead the company’s marketing, graphics and digital operations of more than 100 print publications and 200 web-based platforms around the U.S.
“I believe we have the opportunity now to expand and improve our company programs, both in print and in new media,” Bray said. “Stronger, more creative programs can leverage the newly merged scope of Civitas for more regional revenue while providing all our sales reps with more compelling products that are easier to sell.”
Bush has worked closely with Bray for five years and enjoys his creative pragmatism.
“He has a very sharp mind embedded in a very generous heart,” Bush said. “Action and results oriented, Wes is prepared to help me implement our strategies which will help us maintain our status as one of today’s most agile, financially secure and forward looking local information companies.”
Bray, who moved here from Essex, Conn., is looking forward to the challenges of the new position.
“My style is collegial and action-oriented,” Bray said. “Having been in creative businesses all my career, I enjoy working with enthusiastic and creative people.”
Bray has been a professional marketer, former CEO and proven entrepreneur. In his 35-year career, Bray has worked for marketing companies such as Kraft General Foods, Pepsico and Marketing Corporation of America. In 2004, he co-founded HipCricket, Inc., a mobile technology company, which he helped take public ion 2007 and was acquired in 2011 by Augme Technologies. HipCricket is one of the leading mobile marketing companies in North America.
Most recently, Bray served at the lead mentor for the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute, the university organization founded to enable students and faculty to launch new business ventures.
Bray earned his bachelor of arts in International Relations from Yale in 1974 and a MBA in Marketing from Harvard University in 1978.
