Seattle Times Names New VP of Advertising

Brian Kokes has been named vice president of advertising at The Seattle Times. Kokes, most recently vice president of advertising at the Bay Area News Group (BANG) in San Jose, Calif., has served as the lead advertising executive for a number of California-based entities prior to joining The Seattle Times.

Prior to his role at the Bay Area News Group, Kokes served as the vice president of sales at Gold Mobile, a mobile platform provider also located in the Bay Area. Kokes has significant experience in the news media business, having served as vice president of advertising at The Los Angeles Times, and as national director of advertising at The San Francisco Chronicle

“Following an extensive national search, we are pleased to announce that Brian has joined us as vice president of advertising,” said Alayne Fardella, president and chief operating officer of The Seattle Times. “Brian comes to us with impeccable credentials and is known for his success leading sales teams through times of dynamic change. He is a great fit for The Seattle Times.”

“I am very excited to take on this role for The Seattle Times,“ said Kokes. “The Times has a great reputation as a high quality newspaper, is locally owned, and is located in one of the most robust markets in the country. I look forward to contributing to its success and meeting the needs of our valued advertisers.”

Kokes is a native of Portland, Ore. and is an alum of the University of Oregon. His over 23 years of news media experience began at The Sacramento Bee, and includes leadership roles at The Fresno Bee and Contra Costa Newspapers (now part of the Bay Area News Group). He has also served on the board of the California Newspaper Account Executive Association (CNAEA).
