Tom DeSchriver, a 30-year veteran of the Pocono Record, has been named the new executive editor, Joe Vanderhoof, president and publisher of the Pocono Mountains Media Group, said Tuesday.
“Tom brings depth of knowledge and a dedication like no other. He will continue to move the Pocono Record in the right direction and serve our readers on a daily basis,” said Vanderhoof.
DeSchriver, 55, takes over for Christopher Mele, whose last day was Friday at the Pocono Record. Mele left the paper for another job.
DeSchriver, who since November has been the senior editor for news and online, started as a sports writer at the Record in January, 1984. He became sports editor four years later and then became production editor in 1997, before being promoted 10 months ago.
“The last five years, the Record has been one of the best newspapers in the state for its size,” DeSchriver said. “Chris Mele transformed us into a top-notch source of information for the Poconos community, and my goal is to keep giving our readers news that improves their lives and keeps them abreast of events in their community.
“I’m blessed to have an outstanding staff and don’t expect us to miss a beat in serving the readers of the Poconos,” DeSchriver said. “I look forward to meeting, covering and getting to know even more people in our diverse coverage area.”
