Industry Achiever: Bobby Ellis

After 53 years, Bobby Ellis retired at the end of 2012, as an independent newspaper carrier for the Evansville Courier Co., in Indiana. The Evansville Courier & Press reported that Ellis sold more than 2 million newspapers and walked more than 150,000 miles during his employment. In February, Ellis was honored with a reception for his retirement and for his 71st birthday March 7.

“Bobby Ellis was the best newspaper seller Evansville has ever seen. He knew how to sell papers. He would not take ‘no’ for an answer, so you always had to buy at least one,” customer Randy Lientz told the paper.

I miss Bobby! I hope that he is in good health as we approach the four year anniversary mark of his retirement.

Every time I see the gentleman waiving flags in front of the Pagoda, it brings back memories of seeing Bobby on the corner of Mary and Division Streets with his paper cart that someone built for him.
