10 Community News Ideas Receive New Voices Grants to Launch Sites

J-Lab: The Institute for Interactive Journalism has announced that 10 New Voices grants of $12,000 have been awarded to community news ideas in cities around the country. The awards will help “to launch news sites for under-covered communities, embed TV reporters in neighborhoods, network regional radio programs, and map the local impact of climate change.”

If the grant winners successfully launch their sites and raise matching funding, they will be eligible to receive $5,000 follow-up grants next year. Below are a list of the recipients.

— Northwest Community Radio Network Collaborative Newscast (Pacific Northwest)
— Saint Paul City Newsdesk (St. Paul, Minn.)
— New Castle News Forum (New Castle, N.Y.)
— Neighbor to Neighbor (Cambridge, Mass.)
— Bilingual Interactive Environmental Journalism (Reno, Nev.)
— Neo-News Network (Gary, Ind.)
— Fulton Hill Interactive Portal (Richmond, Va.)
— Building Blocks (New York, N.Y.)
— News Desk on Access SF (San Francisco, Calif.)
