Trinity Mirror is making editorial cuts at its Scottish newspapers. About 37% of the journalistic employees at the Glasgow-based Daily Record and Sunday Mail are likely to be laid off, reducing newsroom staff from 240 to 150.
The unprecedented cuts are, in part, a reflection of the unprecedented economic situation, which has seen a dramatic slump in advertising revenue. They are also part of the overall structural change throughout the industry, and the third factor is the adaptation of new technology.
