A big Brit buy

By: Editorial Staff

Trinity is paying $1.98 billion for Mirror Group, publisher of the tabloid Daily Mirror, in a deal that will create Britain’s largest regional newspaper company, the AP reports. The company, to be called Trinity Mirror, will own 155 newspapers with daily circulation of 2.3 million and weekly circulation of more than 15.3 million.
Trinity chairman Peter Birch says the new company will provide a platform for future expansion. Trinity’s papers include the Western Mail, Liverpool Echo, and Daily Post. Mirror Group owns Scotland’s Daily Record and Sunday Mail, in addition to the Daily Mirror.
