Reporters return to primetime TV tonight in the familiar watchdog role — albeit, chasing vampires — with the revival of the ?Night Stalker? mid-1970s series on ABC.

The two leads are reporters at the fantasy Los Angeles daily ?The Beacon.? Carl Kolchak (still reeling from the murder of his wife) returns, this time played by Stuart Townsend, not Darren McGavin from the original TV movie and series.

Journos are sure to love his line: ?How long would I last if I wrote what I believe??

He has a demanding editor, of course, and his rival/sidekick, a la ?The X-Files,? is a beautiful colleague, ubiquitous in newsrooms, named Perri Reed (played by Gabrielle Union). And there’s also the usual quirky photographer thrown into the mix.

It’s produced by Touchstone Television.
