The last Saturday in June will be the last Saturday The Abilene (Kan.) Reflector-Chronicle publishes. Thereafter it will publish only on weekdays. Circulation is approximately 4,000.
“We have a long history of printing and delivering on Saturdays, and we are one of the smallest newspapers in the state to do so, something we are proud of,” Publisher Dave Bergmeier told his his paper. “Unfortunately, the economy and its lingering recession have impacted everyone, and we believe this is the smartest decision we can make in terms of balancing cost savings while still serving our readers and the community at large.”
The Reflector-Chronicle will upgrade its Web site in July and adopt new forms of communication such as social media.
“Local news is our strength and we will continue to be the leader for the news and information that is specific to this area,” Bergmeier said.
