Cella Irvine has been appointed head of About.com, The New York Times Co. announced today. Irvine will become CEO of the Internet guide on July 28 and will report to Martin Nisenholtz, senior vice president of digital operations at the New York Times Co.
Most recently, Irvine was chief administrative officer of digital marketing firm Digitas, where she was responsible for operational, administrative, and governance functions. Irvine also worked for Microsoft’s New York Sidewalk, where she launched and grew the site. She served as vice president, general manager of Hearst New Media & Technology.
“Cella’s track record of operational excellence and focus on execution, combined with her exceptional leadership skills, make her the perfect person to lead About to its next phase of growth,” Nisenholtz said in a statement.
Irvine succeeds Scott Meyer, who left the company in March.
