Advance Internet, the online division of Advance Publications, Staten
Island, N.Y., has partnered with CafePress.com to provide users of its
online community-building tools with merchandising services.
Over the past few years, Advance Internet has offered community-building
tools to regions where Advance newspapers are published. As a result,
the company now has 10 regional Web sites that have a strong community
CafePress.com enables these local online community groups to
custom-design merchandise such as mugs and T-shirts that can be sold
online. The Web site allows the groups to set up online shops that
sell the items. CafePress.com handles payment, fulfills the orders,
and sends the community group monthly profit checks.
Peter Weinberger, president of Advance Internet, said the CafePress.com
service gives these groups an opportunity to extend their reach and
raise money to achieve their goals, without the worries of handling
inventory, fulfilling orders and collecting funds.
‘They can focus on the issue at hand – building awareness – rather than
worry about logistics,’ Weinberger said.
The Advance sites that will offer CafePress.com’s services include New
Jersey Online, Alabama Live, Cleveland Live, Michigan Live, Oregon Live,
MassLive, Syracuse Online, State Island Live, PennLive, and NOLA Live.
