Alabama Newspaper Deliverywoman Ambushed, Shot

A woman delivering newspapers for the Talladega (Ala.) Daily Home was ambushed, shot and her car stolen.

The victim was attacked around midnight Wednesday on Grist Mill Road, northeast of Childersburg, according to Talladega County Sheriff Jerry Studdard.

Studdard said two male suspects, both armed with shotguns, dragged a log or tree limb in the roadway. He said when the woman stopped at the obstacle, she was shot in the head and arm.

Deputies recovered the victim’s car a few miles from the crime scene.

The woman, whose name was withheld, is listed in critical condition today at University Hospital in Birmingham.

There have been no arrests and investigators are trying to determine a motive.
