Darrell R. Sandlin, a 27-year veteran of the newspaper industry, has been named publisher of the TimesDaily in north Alabama.
Sandlin, whose appointment was announced in the paper Wednesday, will begin work in the new post Monday. He most recently has been director of operations at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work at the TimesDaily and I am looking forward to learning the market and getting involved in the community,” Sandlin said. “I’m anxious to find new ways of meeting the needs of our readers, advertisers and the Shoals community.”
He has previous experience as production director at several newspapers and worked for 10 years with USA Today, including three as field operations manager in Arlington, Va.
Sandlin fills the post held on an interim basis by Scott Brown, director of operations for Tennessee Valley Printing Co., which owns the TimesDaily as well as The Decatur Daily and Moulton Advertiser.
“Darrell’s experience and vision make him the right person for this position,” Brown said.
