The Albany (Ore.) Democrat-Herald, the last weekday afternoon daily to be published in the Willamette Valley, is finally switching to morning delivery seven days a week beginning Oct. 4.
The Oregon daily has come out in the morning on Saturday and Sunday since 1998, but was an afternoon paper on weekdays.
Publisher Martha Wells told her paper said the move is being made in part because many readers are getting their new from the paper’s Website before the print edition reaches their doorstep.
The switch also will allow the company to consolidate some production functions with the Corvallis (Ore.) Gazette-Times, a morning paper that’s printed at the Democrat-Herald. The two will remain separate papers but will continue to publish a joint Sunday edition, according to a Democrat-Herald report.
Both papers are owned by Lee Enterprises Inc.
