GateHouse Media New England is launching a free daily for the summer on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, the publishing group announced Tuesday.
Cape Cod Day will begin distribution on June 23 and publish Tuesdays through Saturdays through Labor Day. The paper will have an average daily distribution of 25,000 copies, and will be available at “hundreds” of locations, GateHouse said.
The paper will target summer visitors and vacationers, offering local news and stories of local people and businesses, plus arts and entertainment activities, said Mark Skala, GateHouse Media’s Cape Cod publisher.
Some Cape Cod Day content will come from WickedLocalCapeCod.com, one of GateHouse’s community Web sites of its New England papers.
Up the Atlantic coast from Cape Cod, the Ottaway Newspapers-owned Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald has published a free summer daily called the Daily Beachcomber for the past two seasons. Like Cape Cod Day, it publishes Tuesdays through Sundays.
