By: E&P Staff

American Community Newspapers announced on Friday that it has purchased The McKinney (Texas) Courier-Gazette, The Penny Saver, and related publications in and around McKinney, Texas from Hartman Newspapers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The total weekly circulation for the acquired publications exceeds 42,000 households.

Scott Wright, current Group Publisher of Star Community Newspapers, will become the publisher of these publications in addition to his other responsibilities. With the acquisition of the Hartman newspapers, Star will increase its circulation to 150,000 weekly in its base of Collin County and over 250,000 in Collin, Denton, and Dallas counties.

?We have worked hard over the past 31 years to build the Courier-Gazette and Penny Saver into the fine publications they are today,? Hartman President Bill Hartman said in a statement. ?We believe that Gene [Carr, CEO of ACN] and the American Community Newspapers will continue our tradition in McKinney and we wish them much success in the future as they take the reins.?
