The American Press in Lake Charles, La., has selected CommunitySportsDesk to collect, organize and present community sports and recreation content for its online and print products.
The initiative, tentatively branded SWLA Recreational Sports, will include online advertising and Web-to-print options. Startup will capture spring baseball.
“Our affiliation with CSD increases connections with our communities and readers, giving them more relevant information at a time when other newspapers are cutting back,” American Press Webmaster Roger Demary said in a statement.
“Coached by the CSD software, trusted team representatives can work in a uniform way and provide content that we couldn’t otherwise reach,” Demary added.
Coverage will encompass Lake Charles and the parishes of Allen, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson, Davis and Beauregard.
As ad support grows for the site, a portion of revenues will flow back to contributing leagues and organizations under a community-share model.
CommunitySportsDesk is a hosted, Web-driven product of Media Innovations LLC, a subsidiary of privately owned United Communications Corp., where it was developed as Kenosha Sports Network by the company’s Kenosha (Wis.) News.
CSD provides a database-driven structure to collection and display of grassroots sporting events, creating mini sports pages for teams and online sports sections for community leagues. It also offers back-office functionality for league administrators. At the affiliate’s option, selected results can “roll up” electronically for publication in print.
