Kirsty Melville has been named executive vice president and publisher of Andrew McMeel Publishing’s book division, effective Sept. 2.

Among the division’s offerings are many collections of comics by cartoonists from Universal Press Syndicate (a sister company to AMP) and other syndicates.

Melville served as founding publisher of Simon & Schuster Australia starting in 1987. The native of Australia moved to the United States in 1994 as vice president and publisher of Ten Speed Press of Berkeley, Calif. Last year, Melville became publisher of San Francisco’s University Games.

Her appointment was announced by Hugh T. Andrews, president and chief operating officer of the Kansas City-based AMP.
