The Associated Press and impreMedia, the big Spanish-language newspaper and multimedia publisher, announced an agreement Tuesday to distribute impreMedia content on AP Mobile, the application for Smartphones.
ImpreMedia content will be featured on the “AP Mobile Noticias en Espanol” channel.
With the content distribution deal, AP Mobile customers will be able to access impreMedia Spanish-language content relevant to their geographical area. Users can now receive content impreMedia’s network including the dailies El Diario/La Prensa in New York and La Opinion in Los Angeles and the weekly La Raza in Chicago.
First-time users of AP Mobile configure their location settings to receive local news content. Users can also customize homepage categories, use content ratings, share and save articles on their mobile devices as well as choose their language preference.
“We’re delighted to work with one of the top Hispanic news publishers, offering more than 1.5 million registered mobile news fans currently using AP Mobile access to their content anytime and from anywhere,” Jane Seagrave, AP’s senior vice president for global product development, said in a prepared statement. “AP Mobile Noticias en Espanol is available across all AP Mobile outlets — including the WAP site as well as apps optimized for the latest mobile devices — with more handsets and carriers to come.”
ImpreMedia Chairman and CEO John Paton said the deal “is consistent with our strategy to extend our journalism over the media platform of the customer’s choice.”
“The popularity, compatibility, and ease of use of AP Mobile’s application have made it a favorite news reader in both Spanish and English,” said Arturo Duran, CEO of impreMedia Digital.
AP recently announced plans to launch AP Mobile America Latina, a multimedia wireless news portal that expands the popular AP Mobile news network to consumers throughout the Americas. Earlier this year, AP entered the international market with the development of French and English language versions of The Canadian Press Mobile.
