Tribune Media Services columnist Art Buchwald won’t turn 80 until Oct. 20, but a big party marking that milestone was held Wednesday night at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.
The birthday bash for the political humorist and former Paris resident raised money for the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. About 450 people attended, according to a Thursday article by Ann Gerhart of The Washington Post. The emcee was Creators Syndicate columnist Mark Shields, and others reportedly at the party included Ben Bradlee, Mike Wallace, and various members of the Kennedy family.
Buchwald, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1982, will receive the National Society of Newspaper Columnists’ Ernie Pyle Lifetime Achievement Award at the NSNC’s conference next summer in Boston (E&P Online, July 26).
