Lee Enterprises Inc. reported Monday that its same-property advertising revenues decreased 1.3% in August compared to a year ago, on weakness in classified that included an 11.5% drop in the real estate category.
Lee said its retail advertising — including its soaring online revenue — was essentially flat at $36 million.
Online advertising revenues from same-property newspapers jumped 48% in August, and is up 56.2% year to date, Lee said.
Classified advertising revenue including online fell 2.7% for the month and is down 1.3% for the year.
Help-wanted bounced back during the month, ending up 3.6% over last year. The category is up 5.6% year to date, Lee said. Automotive fell 4.3% in August, and is down 5.9% for the year.
National advertising revenue dropped 5.6% for the month and 6.2% year to date, Lee said.
Circulation revenue declined 2.2% for the month, and 1.5% year to date.
Total same-property operating revenue in August declined 1.4%, Lee said. Including acquisitions and divestitures, total operating revenue dropped 1.5% for the month and 0.9% percent for the year.
