Ballot Contest Expected in Al Jazeera America Union Vote

Al Jazeera America is contesting nine employees’ right to organize under The News Guild, the latest development in a month-long battle between the news network and its digital newsroom over its employees’ attempts to unionize.

 

The news comes just a few hours before the National Labor Relations Board is scheduled to count secret ballots cast by eligible AJAM employees in a vote to unionize, a process spurred after management last week declined to voluntarily recognize the digital newsroom’s attempt to organize in September. But who’s eligible, and who isn’t, could have an impact on the organizers’ plans.
