The Baltimore Sun moved quickly to reorganize the newsroom after this week’s layoffs of some 61 staffers, about one-third from the editing ranks.
In a memo posted on the Poynter.org Romenesko site, Sun executives detailed the changes and new job titles in big switchover. Excerpt:
“Some of the titles you will see in this note” [Head of Print, and Director of Audience Engagement, for example] “reflect not only the new world we work in, but the world of The Baltimore Sun’s audiences who expect their news delivered in print, online or on their Blackberry or iPhone. That means gathering news and information as real-time reporting — whether it is in the form of the quick-hit information of our blogs or the in-depth investigative and enterprise reporting from our beats — and publishing when those stories are ready.”
