In fall, the Bangor (Maine) Daily News installed CirculationPro from Harris & Baseview, the Ann Arbor, Mich., publishing division of Mediaspan.
The 61,507-circulation (72,629 Sunday) Daily News also relies on CirculationPro to distribute Gannett’s USA Today and a TMC publication.
The Daily News CirculationPro was attracted to the system’s easily configured browser-based client, according to Business Systems Manager Don Corey, the installation’s project manager. CirculationPro 3.0 requires no special client software, only an up-to-date browser and a recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
“We were able to use our existing AS/400 legacy system, through the addition of a Blade XEON server, to give us a Windows-based system that uses the ordinary Internet protocol for communication that is accessible from anywhere,” Daily News Circulation Director Mike Fern said in announcing the installation.
Corey cited CirculationPro’s forms feature for allowing the paper to dispense with “green bar paper and custom-printed forms.”
The Daily News runs ordinary paper through laser printers.
Fern also said the new system’s flexible SQL database allowed the hoped-for integration of multiple databases and multiple publications.
