‘Beacon Journal’ Readers Picking Daily ‘FoxTrot’ Successor

By: E&P Staff

The Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal is asking readers to vote on a daily comic replacement for “FoxTrot,” which goes Sunday-only on Dec. 31.

Candidates include “Bizarro” by Dan Piraro of King Features Syndicate, “Pearls Before Swine” by Stephan Pastis of United Media, and “Tundra” by Chad Carpenter of TundraComics.com. The winner among the three contenders will appear in the Beacon Journal starting Jan. 1.

Last month, the Ohio paper returned “Mary Worth” from the classified pages to the comics section to replace “The Boondocks” reruns when Aaron McGruder didn’t come back from his sabbatical.

Bill Amend’s “FoxTrot” is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate, “The Boondocks” was formerly distributed by Universal, and “Mary Worth” — now done by Karen Moy and Joe Giella — is with King.
