Harold Campbell, the editor of the Beatrice (Neb.) Daily Sun, has resigned his postition, the paper announced Tuesday.

Campbell’s resignation will take effect Friday. He will begin his new duties as a reporter for the Chanute (Kan.) Tribune on July 28.

Campbell told the Daily Sun that the primary reason for his job change was to be closer to his children, Tim and Esther, who are attending school in southeast Kansas: “I?ll miss the many friends I?ve made here in Beatrice, but an opportunity arose that allowed me to be closer to family, so I had to jump on it.”

The announcement ended Campbell’s second spell at the Daily Sun. A reporter and editor with 20 years experience working for newspapers in Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, and South Dakota, Campbell previously worked at the Daily Sun from 1993 to 1994 as city reporter. He returned to Beatrice in December 2005 as a county and courts reporter.

In April of 2007 Campbell was named editor of the paper, replacing Diane Vicars, who resigned to become marketing director at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center.
