Behind the Post’s Skimpy Joan Rivers Wood

The death of Joan Rivers at the age of 81 Thursday afternoon seemed like it was a story made for tabloid covers: a beloved, razor-tongued New York comedy legend, Upper East Side society fixture and doyenne of celebrity schadenfreude dies after a routine endoscopic procedure gone awry.

The Daily News delivered a glowing front-page encomium, calling Rivers “ONE BALLSY LADY” and promoting a special six-page tribute, complete with a Barbara Walters farewell, inside the paper.
