Belo has purchased New Orleans TV station, WUPL-TV, a MyNetwork TV affiliate of CBS. The Dallas-based company said it settled the litigation with CBS over the deal that arose after Hurricane Katrina.

Belo owns the CBS station WWL-TV in New Orleans. The deal creates Belo?s fifth duopoly.

?We are pleased to extend our presence in the New Orleans market and deepen our commitment to the community and its citizens,? Dunia Shive, Belo?s president of media operations, said in a statement.

The transaction is subject to the Federal Communications Committee?s approval.
