Belo Corp. announced that its newspaper group increased revenues for the month of February, up 14.1%. However, February 2004 included one more Sunday and one extra day due to leap year. On a comparable basis, revenues for February 2004 increased 5.5%. Classified employment revenue was up 5.3% on a comparable basis.
The Dallas Morning News’ reported total revenue rose 11.2% with a 10.5% jump in advertising revenue. The newspaper’s retail numbers increased 12.6% and general full-run run of press (ROP) was up 10.1% because of gains in the automotive and financial categories (telecom and travel declined).
Classified revenue for the Morning News was up 2.5% due to strength in real estate (up 14.1%) and employment (up 16.4%). Classified automotive revenue decreased 12.1% for the paper. On a comparable basis, employment revenue decreased 4.1%.
At The Providence (R.I.) Journal, total reported revenue grew 18.5%.
