Belo Offers Free Airtime To Candidates

Dallas-based Belo said it will give free TV airtime to qualified candidates in the 2002 local and national elections, plus space on some Belo Interactive Web sites.

Select Belo sites will provide space for candidate statements and question-and-answer sessions, along with voter registration information and links to voting-related sites.

Belo’s “It’s Your Time” program first launched in the 1996 elections. Federal and gubernatorial candidates get five minutes of free airtime on the company’s 19 TV stations, which also pledge to provide at least 30 minutes of largely local election coverage each week.
