?Bend Bulletin? Carrier Finds Body on Route

By: E&P Staff

Joe Haughton, a longtime carrier for The Bulletin in Bend, Ore., discovered a body lying in the road as he delivered his route in  the early Monday morning.

“Mr. Haughton gave a quick exam of the body, then called 911, indicating he had found a body,” said Keith Foutz, corporate circulation and operations director for the Bulletin’s parent company, Western Communications Inc.

Responding to the call, Bend police and fire and rescue personnel initially determined the death was accidental, probably the result of a skateboarding accident.

Haughton retired from 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas, in 1989 as a sergeant major after a 31-year military career. He has been an independent contractor for the Bulletin since November, 1997.
