Clay Bennett of The Christian Science Monitor has won the 20th annual Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition for a drawing about DNA. The Christian Science Monitor News Service-syndicated Bennett, also honored last fall by Editor & Publisher magazine as the top editorial cartoonist of 2001, will receive the prize March 13.
The second-place winner was The Denver Post‘s Mike Keefe, for a cartoon about racial profiling. Ed Stein of Denver’s Rocky Mountain News and Newspaper Enterprise Association won a special category for Sept. 11-related cartoons.
The competition, sponsored by Columbia College Chicago, memorializes Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist John Fischetti.
