Benson Discusses His Change of Syndicates

By: Dave Astor

Why did editorial cartoonist Steve Benson move this week to Creators Syndicate from United Media?

“I was impressed by Creators’ aggressive approach to sales and by the way it promotes its talent,” The Arizona Republic of Phoenix staffer told E&P Online.

Benson added that he has known Creators President Rick Newcombe for a number of years, and is happy to be represented by the same syndicate that distributes editorial cartoonists such as Mike Luckovich of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Steve Kelley of The Times-Picayune of New Orleans.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Benson also had positive words about United, which he left effective July 31 (E&P Online, Aug. 1). “I enjoyed my time with United,” he said. “There are good people there, and I appreciate the support they gave me.”
