iSyndicate Europe To Handle European Content

German media giant Bertelsmann and Internet content-delivery company iSyndicate have formed a 50-50 joint venture to deliver Bertelsmann content to European Web sites and wireless devices.

The firm, iSyndicate Europe, will also syndicate independent content providers in addition to Bertelsmann media properties. Bertelsmann’s Chief Creative Officer Rolf Schmidt-Holtz will oversee the company’s syndication business, to be assumed by the new Bertelsmann Content Network Division.

iSyndicate Europe will be based in Hamburg, and Bertelsmann will take a 4% stake in iSyndicate Inc. of San Francisco. Rolf Schmidt-Holtz also will take a seat on iSyndicate’s board.

Some of iSyndicate’s partners include CBS MarketWatch, CNet, Reuters, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, and United Media.
