Daryl Cagle’s massive cartoon Web site will spawn its first book next month.

“The Best Political Cartoons of the Year, 2005 Edition” includes more than 800 cartoons from 2004. They cover topics such as the presidential campaign, the Iraq war, terrorism, hurricanes, the Olympics, the Red Sox World Series win, and the deaths of Ronald Reagan, Yasser Arafat, Ray Charles, and Rodney Dangerfield.

Cagle (http://cagle.slate.msn.com) is editorial cartoonist for Slate.com and former president of the National Cartoonists Society. He edited the book with cartoonist Brian Fairrington of The Arizona Republic and the Cagle Cartoons (CC) syndicate. The volume also includes forewords by Howard Dean and Michael Reagan, both of whom write columns for CC.

In other book news, the first paperback collection of George Anzaldi Jr.’s online comic (http://www.dittoandchance.com) has been published. It’s called “Ditto & Chance: Dogs Rule and Cats Drool.”
