‘Billings Gazette’ Looks to Intervene in Wrongful Death Suit

By:

The Billings Gazette has filed a motion to intervene in the wrongful death lawsuit the family of a Billings nurse filed against the police department over a fatal crash.

The family of Lillian Stahl sued the police department and the Yellowstone County sheriff?s department over a September 2008 crash that happened when someone law enforcement officers had been chasing ran a red light and slammed his vehicle into Stahl?s, killing her. The lawsuit alleges both agencies violated their pursuit policies.

Attorney Martha Sheehy filed a motion Wednesday challenging an order that allows attorneys in the case to submit documents under seal, preventing public access.

District Judge G. Todd Baugh signed the order on Dec. 18.
