‘Billings Gazette’ Takes Top Honors in Montana Newspaper Association Awards

The Billings Gazette was recognized by the Montana Newspaper Association as the state’s top daily newspaper for the second straight year.

The Gazette won the Sam Gilluly Sweepstakes Award for large dailies, and the Bigfork Eagle won the Thomas Dimsdale Sweepstakes Award for top weekly or small daily, as determined by points awarded the association’s 2009 Better Newspaper Contest. The New Mexico Press Association judged the contest.

In all, the Gazette won 40 awards in 34 categories, in half of which it took first place. The paper also won Photo of the Year honors for the third consecutive year.

The Gazette‘s first-place awards, won for editorial and advertising, ranged from community service and government reporting to lifestyle pages and overall design.
