Cincy Business magazine rates Cincinnati Enquirer Publisher Margaret Buchanan at number 12 in its annual ranking of the city’s “Power 100.”
In its current issue, the monthly ranks the publisher highest among five local media figures on the list — including Ken Lowe, president and CEO of newspaper and cable giant E.W. Scripps Co., who comes in at number 21. Scripps owns the Cincinnati Post, a daily whose future is in doubt because its joint operating agreement with the Enquirer expires at the end of the year.
Scripps director and former CEO Bill Burleigh is listed in alphabetical order among the 75 locals who are not individually ranked and profiled.
Doug Bolton, publisher of the Business Courier specialty newspaper, is also included in the list. A radio talk show host is ranked number 14.
Buchanan — whom the magazine once profiled with the front-cover headline, “Stealth CEO” — was ranked well ahead of other Cincinnati notables including the Roman Catholic archbishop, the owner of the Bengals football team, and the CEO of Federated Department Stores.
