‘Boston Globe’ Runs First-Ever Front Page Ad

The Boston Globe ran its first-ever front page advertisement, following the lead of other newspapers in offering the high visibility spot for a premium to offset declining ad revenues.

The ad Wednesday for the movie “Defiance” ran on the bottom of the front page the same day the Globe printed 100,000 extra copies to mark President Barack Obama’s inauguration. Globe spokesman Bob Powers said the advertiser purposely chose the high profile date.

The Globe’s front page ad come about two weeks after The New York Times, the flagship paper at the Globe’s parent company, printed its first-ever front page ad.

The Globe announced on Jan. 15 it was cutting up to 50 jobs from its newsroom.
