Redesign Includes Big Partnerships
Bostonherald.com has teamed with Web giants eBay and CNN as it unveils a redesigned site.
eBay Boston, the San Jose, Calif.-based company’s local auction service, is a partner for
bostonherald.com, offering over 60,000 items from Boston-area sellers. Last fall, eBay
officials said they were willing to work with newspapers as they rolled out their regional
auction sites, but the Boston Herald appears to be the first taker of the offer.
The new service will compete with boston.com auctions, launched last year by The Boston
Globe in partnership with Fairmarket of Woburn, Mass.
The partnership with CNN.com will bring streaming video news to bostonherald.com. The paper
says it will soon offer top news stories to CNN.com readers. CNN has been seeking local news
partners, but like eBay, has had few newspaper takers.
Other new features on the redesigned site include:
o the latest weather information from RainorShine.com
o an online version of the Old Farmer’s Almanac
o a new search engine
o expanded reader forums
The Boston Herald’s Web site first launched in 1998.
