The long-discussed Brad Pitt movie about slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl is still in the works, according to Pearl’s widow. It will be based on Marianne Pearl’s book, “A Mighty Heart,” but progress was slowed by the breakup of the Pitt-Aniston marriage.
Marianne Pearl tells The New York Times today that while five studios bid for the rights, she picked Pitt because “he was the only one who had read the book.”
In a 2004 interview, Pitt said it was “a story that I’m very much drawn to. As you read the book what you see is this horrible scenario and they’re trying to trace his steps and save Daniel.”
A rival productioin by filmmakers Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, based on the book “Who Killed Daniel Pearl?,” by the French philosopher Bernard-Henri L?vy, has also been announced.
Pitt has said that he studied journalism for two years at the University of Missouri. “I didn’t really learn, though,” he told an interviewier, and never got much past what he called “Journalism 101.”
