(AP) A new daily has been launched in the fast-growing Branson area of southwest Missouri, home of country music attractions.
The Branson Daily Independent is a five-day, free-distribution tabloid that will be published Wednesday through Sunday mornings. The Daily Independent joins the Ozark Mountain Newspapers family of locally owned and operated publications serving Stone and Taney counties, according to Kurt Lewis, owner of the group and publisher of the Independent.
Steve Smith, formerly editor of the Smithville (Mo.) Herald, is editor. The newspaper is the second start-up daily launched in the area. The Branson Tri-Lakes Daily News began publication as a daily in 1992.
