Brian Melley Named AP News Editor in Los Angeles

Brian Melley, day supervisor in the San Francisco bureau of The Associated Press, has been named news editor of the Los Angeles bureau, directing news coverage in Southern California.

The appointment was announced Wednesday by Anthony Marquez, Los Angeles chief of bureau.

Melley joined the AP in Boston in 1996 from the Springfield, Mass., Union-News and Sunday Republican. He was named Fresno, Calif., correspondent in 2000 and also worked in the Sacramento, Calif., bureau.

He is a native of Amherst, Mass., and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Melley, 41, succeeds Justin Pritchard, who now is reporting for the AP on globalization and the Pacific Rim.
