The Times Colonist, the Canwest Media-owned daily in Victoria, British Columbia, will stop printing on Mondays starting June 22.

“The weak economy and an increase in the cost of fixed items such as newsprint and staff salaries have presented us with unprecedented challenges as we commence our 151st year in the community,” the paper said in an unsigned announcement.

The Times Colonist said it would be “beefing up content in our Tuesday edition and other editions and increasing the amount of local material on our website,, to bring you breaking news online seven days a week.”

The paper vowed to continue to be “the primary source of information in Victoria and on Vancouver Island.”
