Brown Publishing Co. has named Gary Lamberg publisher of The Athens Messenger and Gary Merrell publisher of The Delaware Gazette.
Lamberg, 52, succeeds Merrell at Athens after holding the same job at the Daily Advocate in Greenville. He also will oversee other Brown newspapers in southeast Ohio, including the Logan Daily News and the Jackson County Times Journal.
Merrell, 58, also will be publisher of Brown’s mid-Ohio group of newspapers, which includes Galion, Morrow County, London, Delaware and Circleville. He succeeds Gary Adkisson, who left the Gazette to become general manager of the Paducah (Ky.) Sun.
Merrell previously was vice president of advertising at The Columbus Dispatch.
Lamberg joined Greenville in 2003 after managing a group of community newspapers in Montana. He also has been a publisher, editor and advertising executive in Michigan and Minnesota with Thomson Newspapers and Bliss Communications.
A new publisher at Greenville had not been named.
The Messenger has a daily circulation of 10,500 and 12,200 on Sundays. The Gazette has a daily circulation of 8,000.
