The Brown Publishing Company purchased one daily and 11 weekly newspapers from Hirt Media and Hirt Publishing, Inc. owners Karen and Gary Hirt.
These papers include the Galion Inquirer and Ad-Visor, the Putnam County Sentinel, Vidette and Advertiser, the Morrow County Sentinel, Independent and Adviser, the Perry County Tribune and Shopper, the Bellville Star, and the Knox County Citizen, all in Ohio. Brown also acquired the News Color Press and Home Delivery Systems operations from Hirt Media.

Brown Publishing operates 80 newspapers, all within the state of Ohio. Including the publications bought from Hirt, Brown Publishing produces 18 paid daily newspapers and 62 paid and free weeklies, along with providing extensive commercial printing services. Almost 750,000 separate households — 1.7 million Ohioans — receive at least one Brown newspaper product per week.
