Cox Media Group Ohio will publish and distribute Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s newspaper, the Skywrighter weekly, beginning in October, the Dayton Daily News reported.

The paper had been published by Brown Publishing Co. for more than a decade, the Daily News reported in the article by staff writer John Nolan. Brown Publishing earlier this month exited bankruptcy under the ownership of its senior lender, PNC Bank. An bid by Brown Publishing CEO Roy Brown and two other insiders failed when they could not arrange financing.

Cox Media Group Ohio, the Cox Enterprises cluster that includes the Daily News, was awarded a two-year contract that can be renewed for four additional one-year options.

Content of the paper is controlled by the Air Force, with Cox earning revenue from the sale of advertising.

Cox plans to convert the Skywrighter to a broadsheet from its current tabloid format, the Daily News said.
